In Gaziantep the local director of national education expounded on the importance of healthy vision to children in the Mehmetcik elementary school, adding that Snellen Eye Charts would be distributed to the teachers so that they would have better knowledge about refraction and visual acuity of the children. 

Mr Mehmet Kahraman, local president, Association of Opticians informed the students that they should get their eyes examined regularly. He then explained how to use the eye charts. Teachers were informed class by class and were shown how to use the eye charts in practice by the examination of the pupils. 7,000 Snellen Eye Charts are to be distributed to all schools in Gaziantep.

In Konya a panel discussion was held to mark WSD09. Speakers included Taylan Küçüker, Prof. Dr. Nazmi Zengin, an ophthalmologist from the Department of Ophthalmology, Selçuk University Meram Medical Faculty and Fevzi Acar, President of Konya Opticians Association among others.
